2026Honeymoon BridgeDonald WG Lindsay & Roo Geddes+

Independent

Although released under my own name, Honeymoon Bridge is not a solitary record. Roo Geddes’ fiddle and piano are present at the centre of it, answering, carrying, unsettling and completing the music throughout.

2025Two Boats Under the MoonDonald WG Lindsay with Roo Geddes+

Independent

We came away from Watercolour with 91 minutes of original and traditional music, including two sets of pipe tunes. A successful crowdfunder covered the release, and we launched the album aboard the tall ship Lady of Avenel at the 50th Girvan Traditional Folk Festival.

Sonido Polifonico · 10-inch EP

This 10" vinyl EP was recorded with one of our favourite engineers, Sam Smith of Green Door Studios in the West End of Glasgow. The second "Dixon" set I've put to a proper recording, the version of Jack Latin on this disc is based on the setting found in the William Dixon MS in the AK Bell Library in Perth, and which I learned from Matt Seattle's book "The Master Piper" (and have played many times together with Matt in sessions in the Canon, Jedburgh, in the Cloudhouse Cafe in Stow, in the RSPS Rooms in Edinburgh, and elsewhere). Ali and myself have been playing Jack Latin together at least as long, and I think that comes across here.

Third Eye TV · improvised collaboration

During September and October 2021 I fulfilled a commission for the "Jazz at the Third Eye" project, curated by music journalist and academic Stewart Smith. Thanks to an additional grant from The Lowland and Border Pipers Society, the spellbinding South African vocalist and trombonist Siya Makuzeni and awesome Brazilian Saxophonist Thiago França were also able to take part and the result was a mind-expanding remote trio collaboration, which produced 25 minutes of sublime improvised music, that I feel honoured to have been a part of and which for me personally will forever define the experience of living in the middle of the South Atlantic ocean.

Good Energy

Four improvisations for Scottish smallpipes and electric guitar by Donald WG Lindsay and Richard Youngs, recorded at Green Door Studio in Glasgow and released by Good Energy.

This was the fruit of a number of improvisation sessions between Richard and myself, most of which I think took place in early 2019. We performed publicly at The Glad Cafe and in Tchai Ovna, and then transposed the experience into a recording environment at Green Door Studio in Glasgow, with engineer Sam Smith.

REL Records

A collection of music written by my uncle, the late Rev Alex Muir (Canisbay & Keiss/Clachan a Luib). Played mostly on Scottish smallpipes, accompanied by producer Keith Easdale on cittern & whistle, and Celine Donoghue on fiddle. Recorded at The Practice Pad (now the Audio Lounge) by Stuart Glasgow during 2002.

2022Being in a Place — A Portrait of Margaret TaitLuke Fowler+

Film by Luke Fowler · smallpipes contribution

16mm film · 60 minutes

It can't even have been as much as a week after our arrival in the Orkney Islands, fresh from Ascension Island, that I received a call from Luke to ask if he was right in thinking that we had moved to Orkney. He related that he was in Kirkwall for a few days working on a film, and asked if I could meet him there and play some crunluath for him.

Film and soundtrack contribution

“One More Step Along the World I Go” had been our school anthem, and had been chosen by Jono to accompany the closing credits of his film "My Old School", in which I'd also participated a couple of years previously.

Contribution to Kinning Park and Bridge of Allan

Fourth Dimension Records

Had a great time making this with Richard & Alasdair Roberts, recorded at the Kinning Park Complex in Glasgow, using my Dad's ancient Highland drones, a Sinclair chanter & the Lindsay System Swan (the opto-electro-acoustic smallpipe chanter I built in 2016). Ali & me can be heard on track 1 "Kinning Park", and track 5 "Bridge of Allan".

Lord Randal · compilation contribution

Monorail

I was very touched to be asked to contribute to this limited edition CD, curated by Alasdair Roberts for Glasgow's Monorail as a companion to Alasdair's album "Pangs". I sang a version of "Lord Randal" that I learned in 1999 from the late John Eaglesham's singing while recording him for the Traditional to Digital project at the University of Glasgow.

Smallpipes on The Conundrum

Drag City

I popped in to help Alasdair & co with a rousing arrangement of Peter McLeod's classic 2/4 March "The Conundrum". This would be the last thing I recorded using traditional Scottish Smallpipes in the key of "A", although nobody could have known that at the time!

2010Joy to the Person of My Love / False AstronomyAlasdair Roberts+

Rif Mountain

This project of Alasdair's arrived at an interesting time, during which my then-eight-year-old son Ryall & me had been stargazing and planet-hunting intensively amongst the dark skies of the sma glen, north of Crieff. On hearing that I was recording a song called "false astronomy", Ryall produced two paintings he titled "The Night Sky" and "The End of the Night Sky", which Alasdair liked and decided to use for the label art and record sleeve respectively.
